The habit of hesitation is not your fault.
Most people brain is set up for defeat. Patterns of defeats are stored in the brain and when you ask your brain to do something it tells you “not now”. If, not now then when! Your brain rarely makes things happen. The moment you want to do something it resist and scare you. In the progress of time defeats reinforces negatives traits and reduces your confidence. A lack of confidence can cost you your marriage, job, business, health and energy.
Life does send defeats which are recorded in the brain. Unfortunately you have no control of these memories. But when the habit of hesitation shows up nail it with this new 5 second rule.
Ok. Here is the big deal. I did not invent this but read it in someone else book. They call it the 5 second rule. When you want to do a task and feel held back – count backwards from 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 and say what you should do.
It’s a simple trick you can use for everything. The counting distracts your mind from worries, thoughts and fears.
Use this simple mind trick any time you know you should be doing something but feel uncertain, afraid or overwhelmed. Take a few seconds count 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 then take action and move into the task. You are re-training your brain to take action instead of overwhelming you with the task.
Counting backwards tricks the brain. It distract the brain pattern and prevents you from over thinking and worrying. It focuses your attention on what needs to be done next and prompts quick action.
As soon as you reach 1 take action do the task. Basically, your mind tricks you into thinking things through. And the moment you get tricked into doing this, you get trapped by your thoughts. Your mind has a million ways to talk you out of acting. That’s the neurological reason why it’s so hard to change.
Counting forward gives no results because your brain can keep counting. But counting backwards when you reach 1 there is no where else to go but take action.
