Your vision determines how you live your life today.
Do you want to know what your future looks like?
God has placed you on earth for a purpose. It’s written in your heart when you find it – you will find fulfilment you will touch many people lives.
Vision is how you prepare your life today with the future in mind. Your vision is the destination and it will discipline your choices today. “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” (Proverb 29:18).
The word ‘perish’ means to throw of constraints. If, you do not have a vision you throw off constraints and have no real definition of your future. Or, another way is to have no self-control for your life. Vision disciplines what your doing based on priorities not niceties!
A vision gives you permission to say no to things of no importance.
Some people will go along with other people’s programs not realizing they are using valuable time on things of little importance to them. You can do this a few times but it’s time wasted pursuing someone else’s vision. There are many things one can argue about this point chose the best for your life.
Questions to ask yourself to know where you’re spending time.
- What am I using my energies on?
- Where am I investing my money?
- Am I spending ample time developing my personal skills?
- What am seeking for in life?
- Am I willing to learn new skills to have a better life in the future?
- Am I looking after my health?
A well thought of vision will keep you from trying everything. Most people get caught up with wanting to do all things just for fun. If, this is your attitude you may find yourself spending at least a decade of your life experimenting. A vision helps you to keep your eyes and mind in one set direction.
When you take your eyes of the destination you might end up going where you do not want to be. Let’s look from this perspective. You want to go to the downtown market. You know the route to the downtown market, but decide to go via the scenic route. While the scenic route is longer and further from downtown. You do not want to take the longer route to reach your vision. It’s possible to make the right decisions by making small choices in the right direction every time.
How does a vision play out in the daily roles of life?
My vision as a young girl growing up was to be in the fashion industry. It was a dream. Looking back I started making doll clothes, jewellery, hand bags and did a lot of colouring. Without any expertise to back me I started making clothes without a sewing machine.
As I was older, my first job was working as an apprentice for an Interior Decor company. Which gave me lots of experiences in styles, colours, people, history, communication, business, etc. I worked in the decor industry for over 20 years. Next, I slighted changed my direction to the fashion retail industry for a short time. I honed my natural talents – developed more skills to help me get where I wanted to be.
This paved the way for me to attend fashion school in Manhattan, New York City. As you might know, New York is a major player in the fashion industry. When I started I did not have a plan, I followed my dream non stop. It was written in my heart and came out through the things I was passionate about. I learnt lessons from life and disciplined my choices based on what I love doing. LIFE IS YOUR TEACHER.
